LOCAL BUILDER WINS NATIONAL ENERGY EFFICIENCY AWARD
The EVHA honors builders who voluntarily integrate energy efficiency into the design, construction, and marketing of their new homes. It is also designed to educate the home building industry and the public about successful approaches to energy-efficient and environmentally-conscious construction practices. According to Michael Luzier, president of the NAHB Research Center, “Innovative companies such as Holton Homes are leading the industry’s efforts to incorporate energy-efficiency and resource conservation into home building practices. We are proud to name Holton Homes as a 2005 Gold Award winner.” Holton Homes has been operating for 10 years and builds 100 homes annually. Their 2,186-square-foot home is an excellent example of how energy efficiency adds value to residential construction. It features a controlled ventilated crawlspace with two inches of rigid foam insulation, advanced framing with 2"x6" studs spaced 24" on center, and excellent systems’ engineering. An innovative wall system provides R-21 high-density fiberglass batts, while R-38 fiberglass insulation is blown into the ceiling area. A high efficiency furnace and air conditioner are also included in this energy efficient design. The EVHA is managed by the NAHB Research Center, and operated in partnership with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the U.S. Department of Energy through the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Award sponsors include Building Green, Inc., Icynene, Inc., FannieMae, the Vinyl Institute, and the AAMA Vinyl Materials Council. |
